Jobs

Loggly is an early stage startup based in San Francisco, California and is funded by True and Trinity Ventures. We are looking to hire a few smart individuals to help us solve a problem that has plagued mankind since the beginning of time: how to manage tons of pesky log files coming out of oodles of cloud based servers.

If you dream of building software which handles petabytes of critical data for thousands of companies, all running on hundreds of virtualized servers, seek help immediately by applying for one or more of the jobs below.

Email us a short humorous blurb about yourself and your CV to jobs@loggly.com. Additionally, if you own a pet beaver it would totally rule if you brought him to the office with you. Apparently you can’t buy them. Please, no recruiters or trappers.

What Matters?

In general, we’ve found people will work hard on something if they believe in it enough and have a good support system. Past working hard and being good at what you do, we look for a few other key things in a person:

  • Capable of effectively communicating what you know to people who don’t
  • Friendly, reliable, and trustworthy, but not necessarily in that order
  • Already involved with developing or writing about an existing technology relevant to our business
  • Wrestled with and gave it a go at conquering large scale log file management in a previous lifetime
  • You have a strong desire to enjoy everything that life has to offer

UI Designer

Herd up the website and user experience here at Loggly. You’ll be responsible for chatting with customers about usability, sketching out concepts for the site and UI, photoshopping images and slices, building CSS from scratch, writing HTML in Django templates and, in general, coming up with the best darned way to view and interact with an application’s log files this country has ever seen, all the while making sure new visitors stick and stay to see what we have to offer. Oh, and you should probably fix this page’s HTML. It’s pretty ugly in there.

Here’s what makes you tick:

  • great at understanding the user experience from the user’s perspective
  • live for building HTML and CSS from scratch and have toyed with 960.css and the like
  • totally shred with Photoshop or some other pixel pushing software
  • really good with wood grain themes, and can show samples of such
  • have used a HTML templating system similar to Django’s templates
  • aware of different aspects of data visualization or visualizations in general
  • are keen on minimalistic designs, and have a panache for clean, simple interfaces

Hadoop Engineer

Forge and weld a different kind of search engine. You are building part of the back end systems that accept data from our customers and push it through to our archiving, indexing and map/reduce framework, then make it available through search and large scale analytics systems. You’re helping form a core team who’s responsibilities are to make us bigger, better and faster. You know what to do, and don’t ask twice.

Here’s a little of what makes you tick:

  • have constructed a distributed, elastic system before
  • familiar with both solr and lucene, and realize those projects have in fact merged
  • you conduct map reduce jobs on hadoop for breakfast, or for small afternoon snacks
  • achieved authoring or implementing a high throughput distributed queuing system
  • or have authored or implemented a high performance distributed data store
  • understand that high reliability systems are expected to be highly reliable
  • you’re that guy that comes in, in the middle of the night, and makes magic happen
