Support Using Loggly HipChat alerts

Send Loggly Alerts to HipChat

You can configure Loggly to send alerts to your HipChat rooms. We configure HipChat’s v2 API as a webhook and send notifications to the room as JSON messages.

1. Create an Alert Endpoint

Log into your Loggly account, go to the Alert tab, click on Alert Endpoints, and then the Create Endpoint button. Select HipChat Endpoint in the dropdown box. Provide a name and description, Room Auth Token and Room ID.

Replace:

      • Room Auth Token: your HipChat room notification auth token. To create one, open the room actions menu on the chat client, click “Tokens”, then create a new room token.

      • ROOM ID: your HipChat chat room ID. To get a room ID, open the room actions on the menu, click on the room you created. It will show you the API ID which is your room ID.

2. Create a Loggly Alert

To create a Loggly Alert go to the Alert tab and click on Add New and fill in the required information. Select the Send to an Endpoint checkbox and select your HipChat Endpoint from the dropdown. We recommending disabling the 10 most recent events because HipChat has a limit of 10,000 characters per post. Click save when you are done.

3. Enabling Room Notifications for HipChat

If you want to call attention to alert notifications in HipChat rooms then enable the setting by clicking on the gear icon and checking the “Send a notification in HipChat” property. After enabling this, Loggly sends alerts to HipChat rooms and room members will be notified based on their HipChat notification settings such as a sound or desktop/mobile notifications.

Note: This is an account level setting so make sure other admins are aware if you change this preference.

After saving this setting, users will be notified as per their individual HipChat notification setting.

4. Verify that Your Alerts are Reaching to your HipChat Room

Send some logs to Loggly which will trigger your selected alert condition. Wait a few minutes for the alert to run, then check your HipChat chat room for the notification. Here is an example showing what it will look like:

Troubleshooting

If you don’t see any alerts show up please check the following:

  • Verify that the search that would trigger the alert has the required events by searching for them on the search tab
  • Wait for at least the duration you set as how often the alert runs
  • Try using curl to send a test event to the endpoint you configured for HipChat. curl –header “content-type: application/json” -d ‘{“message”:”test message from curl”,”color”:”green”}’ https://api.hipchat.com//v2/room/ROOM_ID/notification?auth_token=TOKEN
  • Search or post questions in the community forum.
Thanks for the feedback! We'll use it to improve our support documentation.
